Battlefield and NFS publisher to buy mobile game developer Glu Mobile

Computer games maker Electronic Arts Inc. has decided to buy Glu Mobile Inc. for $2.1 billion, which specializes in developing games for smartphones. This was announced by Electronic Arts on its website.

Electronic Arts will pay $12.50 per share. Subject to approval from Glu Mobile and regulators, the company plans to close the deal in the second quarter of 2021. According to Electronic Arts, the deal could grow the company’s recurring monthly audience to more than 100 million mobile users.

Glu Mobile’s Web site says the boards of directors of both companies have already approved the deal. Glu Mobile’s board has also recommended that shareholders approve the deal. The company specifies that it expects the deal to close by June 30, 2021.

Glu Mobile was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in San Francisco. The company developed Covet Fashion, Deer Hunter, Design Home, Diner DASH Adventures, Disney Sorcerer’s Arena, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood and MLB Tap Sports Baseball. The company employs 800 people, including 500 developers.

Electronic Arts was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Redwood, California. The company owns such brands as EA SPORTS, FIFA, Battlefield, Apex Legends, The Sims, Madden NFL, Need for Speed, Titanfall and Plants vs. Zombies. The company had net revenues of $5.5 billion in 2020.

On Feb. 3, Bloomberg reported that Elecrtonic Arts shares were down 5%, reaching a price of $141.27 per paper. This happened after the quarterly financial statement of the company was released: its results didn’t meet expectations of analysts. At the same time, the company’s shares were growing during the previous three sessions.
